Peak 2005
3 leaders and 20 girls
(plus daily support from other leaders from Sheffield) attended
Peak 2005 International Scout and Guide Camp at Chatsworth from 30 July-6
August. Our camp was made up of girls from 45th/99th Sheffield
guides, 46th Sheffield guides plus one guide from 57th and Abbey Rangers.
Their home for the 7 nights was the subcamp COTOPAXI. There were more
than 6,000 Guides and Scouts from all over the world: Australia, America,
Russia, Japan, Sweden, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Ghana, Canada and
Uganda (to name a few) on site plus adults. The camp offered an amazing range of
activities including: Sailing, canoeing, stilt walking, bell ringing, amateur
radio, air rifle shooting, RAF team building, rock wall climbing, abseiling,
crafts, street hockey, crystal maze games, karate, steel band, moorland walking,
wildflower walks, pioneering, orienteering and more. to say that the girls had
the time of their lives is an understatement. There was football and rugby
coaching, a display by the Royal Marines, and a visit from the Chief guide Jenny
Leach. Visitors day saw 6,500 people through the gates and Brownies and Cub came
on their days in staggering numbers of 1,650! It was a fantastic adventure not
soon to be forgotten. Many, many thanks to all those who made the camp possible
and see you or Peak 2010.
