G@SSS (Girlguiding @ Sheffield Senior Section)

Queens Guide Award | December's Senior Section Newsletter | Opportunities Overseas | Training Form for Events

Girlguiding Sheffield's latest Senior Section Newsletter is now available!

The beauty of the YLQ is that it reflects much of what a prospective leader is asked to cover for the full Adult Leadership Qualification

Girls who are enthused by their own Girlguiding experience enough to want to share this with others are precious

Queens Guide Award

Congratulations!

Charlotte Evans from West Division and Deborah Loukes from North Division have recently completed the Queen’s Guide Award.  They will both be invited to a special presentation in London in the not too distant future.

The Queen’s Guide Award is the highest award for members of Girlguiding UK, and is open to any members aged 16 to 25 and must be completed within three years or before the 26th birthday, whichever is sooner.

The Award is based on the concepts of personal challenge and participation and is split into five sections: service in guiding, outdoor challenge, personal skill development, community action and residential.

For more information look at:

If you decide that you would like to register to do the Award get in touch with the County Queen’s Guide Coordinator - Jo Taylor (Details in County Directory)

Senior Section Adviser

I have recently taken over from Jo Hutchinson as Senior Section Adviser for Girlguiding Sheffield, and should like to introduce myself to those of you that don't know me. I am currently assistant Ranger Leader at West Division Rangers, and in the past have been a Young Leader Guider in South West Division, and Senior Section Adviser both in Sheffield and in Buckinghamshire. I have been in touch with Ranger Leaders already, as well as Commissioners, Young Leader Coordinators, and Queen's Guide candidates and their mentors.

If you have not heard from me please get in touch, as it means that you are missing from my list!

I should like to know if anybody in the Senior Section age group or Leaders and Commissioners has any specific ideas for a get together or training over the next few months; whether it be a support group meeting to exchange ideas, a formal training, or an event for the girls, please let me know what you want.

If you need any advice about any aspect of the Senior Section please get in touch with me.

Jo Taylor

Be Vinspired

If you are aged 16-25 you may be interested in registering for Vinspired.  It is an organisation that provides recognition for young people who are already involved in volunteering as well as being able to provide placement opportunities in the local community.

There's a very straightforward form to register, and then volunteers log all the hours that they spend volunteering and gain certificates that are recognised by universities and some employers.

It would be worthwhile for any members in the age group to register, and there are other opportunities available on the website at http://vinspired.com/

Your Ranger Leader, local Commissioner, Young Leader Coordinator or Student Coordinator has a copy of the application form, or you can email Jo Taylor (details in County Directory)

Picture of Matchmakers

Rosie (centre) came to Girlguiding Sheffield through one of our stands at the Sheffield University Volunteers Fair over 5 years ago, with NO Guiding experience at all and is about to take over full leadership of a local Brownie Unit. Danielle (left) is about to go on placement in Warrington but helped for a short time in a unit in Meersbrook. The group she helped re-establish is part of SSAGO (Student Scout and Guide Organisation).

The Rangers really did steel the show at Beighton Scout and Guide Gang show, in celebration of 100 years of Guiding ..... as did their Guider Beth Walters, dressed most attractively, as a lady Scouter!  But the Rainbows took centre stage!

The West Division Ranger Unit, along with Gillian Nottingham, attended the Remembrance Day service at the City Hall on the 13th November 2005.

Did any of you attend the Woodchipper's weekend in 2003 to help re-surface the Adventure Playground at the OAC?  Did you know that Ann Evans took her Holiday licence during the weekend?  Well, here she is receiving this at the official opening of the Playground.
