Exciting Short Cruises on Sheffield's Inland Waterways

The 'ethel' trust is offering free 2 hour mini trips on 'ethel', its purpose built community barge to groups in the Sheffield area.

This is your chance to experience the sights and sounds of the local waterways to:

  • see Sheffield from a totally different perspective

  • find out about the history of the canal and

  • perhaps even give us a hand in operating our barge.

So if YOU are a group of disabled or older people, or a youth group, and would like to take this opportunity, then please contact Phil our Project Organiser on 0114 278 6338 or 07722 678168.

We look forward to meeting you at Victoria Quays, Sheffield between the 14th January and 7th March 2008.

The kettle will be on with a warming and welcoming cuppa!!

Planet Pot, Hangingwater Rd

Caters for Rainbows through to Rangers (I don’t think the Trefoil Guild have visited yet!). You can decorate an eggcup to a teapot and many things in between including frog goblets and geckos. The main advantage for me was that I arranged this completely by email – I find it is difficult to phone people in working hours.  Email Jon Jones info@planetpot.co.uk. If you go to the shop, very little preparation is needed (a permission form) and no clearing up afterwards. They can cater for up to 24 people.

There are several benefits to the human mind-body-spirit system; which include to de-stress, exercise the upper body, develop creativity, improve mental clarity, raise self esteem and confidence. Tackle communication problems, anger and express unresolved emotions with Drum Therapy."

Green Watch

Green Watch Rangers are part of Sheffield City Councils, Parks, Woodlands and Countryside, Community Services.  For those of you not familiar with Green Watch, their aims are to

  • Divert young people away from the path of crime, by building the confidence and skills of individuals and groups through training and work experience.

  • Combat anti-social behaviour and youth nuisance by providing diversionary activities, site monitoring and sympathetic site management.

  • Establish park watch type schemes and to enforce bylaws and issue fines for litter and dog fouling.

  • Increase the use of sites, by enhancing the programme of community events and activities undertaken by the Rangers.

  • Increase the diversity of volunteer placement opportunities and support people at risk, including community punishment orders and young offenders.

One of the rangers, Kevin Sandham-Mulholland, is keen to work with members of Girlguiding (his wife is a Brownie Guider in Rotherham!).  His particular areas of responsibility are Sharrow and Burngreave but he is willing to come to any meeting place to help with all aspects of our programmes.  He is also willing to do bulb and tree planting, den building, survival skills, pond dipping, etc etc. This can be done at any open space (park, woods, church grounds, etc).  There are activities for all age groups from Rainbows right through to SS and Guiders.

Two very big pluses in his favour : 1) Kevin has already been CRB checked by NEE England and 2) all these services are FREE, because Green Watch is funded by SCC and various charitable grants.

Kevin's telephone number is 0776 9912798

Skate Central, Queens Road, Sheffield.  Telephone: 0114 2723037

Formally the Queens Road Ice Rink (the Ice House), in May 2005, the ice was removed to make way for a revolutionary new Roller Skating surface.

The rink still maintains much of the charm of bygone years and ALL of its atmosphere and attention to public service and family values!  The only noticeable difference is that you don't get wet when you fall over!
